A secondhand shopper was thrilled when they found their dream find, only to have the thrift gods smile on them further upon discovering a second unexpected treasure in one of the drawers.
The shopper, thriftymoop (@thriftymoop), posted a TikTok video of the initial score — a standing jewelry chest — and what they found inside.
"Exploring thrift stores often leads to unexpected treasures, as illustrated by my recent find—a stunning standing jewelry chest that has long been on my wishlist," they wrote in the caption. "Priced at just $50, this purchase seemed like an instant win, but little did I know the real gems that awaited me inside."
@thriftymoop Not only did I find my all time find! I've always wanted a standing jewelry chest like this! Instant buy!!! As I was getting it in the car I heard a bunch of stuff move. I just thought broken pieces and earring backs probably that were left. So I was getting in and started to clean it. When I pulled out the bottom drawer all these treasures were inside. A white gold heart with diamonds! Silver rings! And a cute Avon cameo. This jewelry box was 50$ do you think it was worth the price! #thriftfinds #jewelry #whitegoldjewelry #fyp #jewelrybox ♬ original sound - Jordan ✨
"As I was getting it in the car I heard a bunch of stuff move," they explained. When they opened one of the drawers, it was filled with "a beautiful white gold heart adorned with diamonds, a collection of sparkling silver rings, and a charming Avon cameo!"
A screenshot inserted into the video shows that a diamond heart necklace like the one they found can go for $150-$1,150.
It's not uncommon for thrift store shoppers to discover valuables hidden in pockets, drawers, or grab bags of thrifted items. As evidenced by the original poster's post, they can also potentially make a significant amount of money from these hidden valuables.
Potential monetary gains aside, shopping secondhand brings many benefits, including saving money on everyday necessities and discovering rare and valuable items at great discounts. It also keeps items in use and out of landfills.
If you don't have access to local thrift shops, or searching through them isn't for you, you can also buy secondhand items online or source local buy-nothing groups.
Commenters were delighted for the OP, sharing in their joy as well as offering advice.
"Awesome finds you should keep them so the value can go up," advised one.
