A tiny tuxedo kitten in Alameda, California, is safe after a terrifying tumble into a deep metal pipe, thanks to a determined rescue by a local animal control officer.
Not only was the kitten able to recover safely, but he has also found a loving foster home and an outpouring of community support.

A report of a kitten in distress sent Alameda Police Department Animal Control Officer Emily Crum to Ferry Point, Alameda Post reported.
At the scene, Crum found the frightened kitten stuck at the bottom of a metal pipe in an abandoned field, about 10 feet down with no way out.
Because the pipe was so deep, reaching the animal was especially challenging, but Crum ultimately got the kitten out safely.
In a Facebook post after the rescue, the department said "it was clear this little guy had been through quite the adventure" and that "He was covered in wet rust, and his paw pads were raw from his many unsuccessful attempts to climb out on his own."

After being cleaned up and cared for, the kitten was named Rusty.
Rusty quickly found a foster home with an Alameda Police Department dispatcher who had taken the original call for help.
