A set of before-and-after photos is highlighting a cat rescued from a ditch beside Interstate 35, showing her recovery into a fluffy, highly expressive pet.
Rue is winning hearts, not just for her remarkable transformation, but because her new owner said she's "the silliest girl around."
The story and photos appeared in a post to Reddit's r/BeforeNAfterAdoption community, where Rue's owner summed up her transformation by writing, "From a ditch on the side of I35 to the silliest girl around… I love you Rue!"
In the photos, Rue is first seen with matted, dirty fur, looking scared and uneasy. In the after photo, though, she clearly looks healthier and happier, with a far cleaner coat.

The original poster wrote they had heard about Rue and her siblings after losing another cat and felt an immediate bond. OP also noted that Rue still carries some fear from her difficult beginning, writing that "she's still terrified of anything even remotely loud and strangers…My biggest quest with her has been helping her learn to not fear my boisterous and loud boyfriend!"
Still, her growth in a secure home is evident. The comments section quickly filled up with support for both Rue and her adopter.
Reacting to Rue's transformation, one commenter wrote, "Bless you for saving this gorgeous girl. What a glow up!" One added that, "I GASPED at the after [photo]. My word, what a beautiful baby."
Another added, "She's beautiful and leading a charmed life because of your kindness! Bravo." One user similarly noted, "What a change your love has wrought!"
Others added jokes, with one commenter writing, "She certainly doesn't seem to RUE the day you found her!" Another joker added that Rue was, "The first good thing to ever come out of I35."
Speaking about Rue's progress with the aforementioned boyfriend, another commenter predicted, "They'll be BFFs soon enough. And then you'll be the third wheel."
