User calls out 'annoying' AI feature implementation strategy: 'It's all ... so exhausting'

An Instagram user turned to Reddit after noticing a significant change in the Instagram app's filter application process that forced the use of artificial intelligence features, asking whether others were experiencing the same issue.

"Instagram Story Filters gone & replaced with Meta AI?" the poster asked, alongside a photo showing a single row at the bottom of the story interface for choosing saved filters, circled.

"While adding story, I can't access all my saved Filters, and now I'm getting this Meta AI layout when I clicked 'Filter' icon in the story," the OP shared further. "Is anyone facing this?"

It turns out they were, and they were equally frustrated.

"Yes just saw this! Came here looking for answers too," a fellow Redditor said. "This sucks, I loved the filters to add after a photo was taken!"

"Same. It's awful," added another. "Not only is this current layout not user friendly at all, they're promoting this horrible AI slop."

The consensus seems to be that the forced use of AI technology is negatively impacting and undermining a previously popular feature. This sentiment has been growing, too, with many users looking for ways to opt out of AI features on some platforms.

When technology evolves on a larger scale, it's not surprising that users are urging companies to create more effective ways to integrate these advancements. There is a growing demand for transparency regarding the use of the technology, including when ads are created with it rather than by humans.

Users on the social platform X were equally frustrated discussing the issue in a post shared by Onion Person (@CantEverDie).

"AI feature implementation strategy is essentially 'how annoying can we make the ui' so people accidentally hit ai features so these companies can brag about how 'highly used' ai features are internally," read the caption of the post above a screenshot of someone else's experience, stating, "It's all getting so exhausting."

"I've seen egregious examples of ai button enshittification but this might be the worst I've found out about so far," said one.

"My tablet literally turned the off button, a physical hardware button, into a button that activates the AI," added another. "I still can't believe it."
