As the world heats up, wildfire seasons are growing longer and more intense around the globe. While this spells disaster for property and increases the risk to human life, it also resulted in an interesting moment when a trail camera in Nebraska captured a view of a wildfire from the inside.
What's happening?
A Reddit user shared the photos in a recent post. "A trail cam that went through a wild fire in Nebraska," they said. "It survived and took photos."

The first image they shared shows the camera itself, which is an unidentifiable, ash-covered lump.
The next two photos show its lightly singed, but still intact, memory card.
The next four photos in sequence tell the story of the wildfire: the first one shows a field and trees in the background, all lit in hellish orange; in the second, flames have ignited at the right side of the frame; the third is a field of fire with smoke obscuring the background; and in the fourth, the fire is so intense that it begins to warp the image.
"Holy cow, that's awesome and yet terrifying. I can't imagine being in that raging inferno," a commenter said.
Why are these photos important?
While it is common for the media to take photos of wildfires from a distance, it is much rarer to see this phenomenon so close up. These images are a reminder of how destructive and dangerous such a disaster can be, even if they are interesting to look at.
Meanwhile, this disaster highlights the need to bring our overheating climate under control to prevent future disasters from destroying the planet we call home.
What's being done about wildfires?
The most effective way to stop our overheating planet is to vote for policy changes that will reduce heat-trapping air pollution. You can also educate your family and friends about these issues.
