The utility CPS Energy is now expanding its community solar program, allowing customers to buy panels installed at shared sites across the region and receive bill credits for the electricity those panels produce, according to the San Antonio Report.

With shared arrays, customers may be able to buy enough panels to meet all their power needs.
Owners buy and maintain control over any 620-watt panels they purchase and can either move them or resell them to interested buyers. Miggins told the Report that each panel is priced at $1,240, with estimated savings of about $115 a year on electricity bills. Over the program's 20-year life, that amounts to roughly $2,300 in savings per panel.
The first installations will use roof space leased from the San Antonio Food Bank. After that, Big Sun Solar plans to add more facilities on leased Bexar County land with strong sunlight, per the Report.
