As electric vehicle shoppers look past concept-car buzz and launch hype, one question continues to stand out: How far will a new model actually go in the real world?
That is why an independent test of the electric Mercedes GLC 400 is drawing attention as drivers compare it with other much-discussed next-generation EVs.
What happened?
In a video, EV tester Bjorn Nyland put the Mercedes GLC 400 through one of his signature real-world range evaluations on his YouTube channel.
Nyland framed the model as part of a broader wave of anticipation.
He said, "You know, in 2026, there are mainly three cars that people are hyped up about. The first one is the BMW iX3 Neue Klasse. Second car is the Volvo EX60. And the third car is this, the Mercedes GLC 400."
Rather than pitching the GLC 400 as a leader in charging speed or maximum range, Nyland focused on efficiency. He said it "doesn't charge nearly as fast as Xpeng or Zeekr" and "doesn't have the same range as a BMW iX3."

He added: "We're going to try to see at least how efficient it is and how good range we have in this range test."
He also described the SUV as smaller than the EQE SUV, which could make it appealing to shoppers who want premium features without moving up to a larger electric SUV.
