Walmart stores in 16 states have recalled frozen organic berries after Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur warned of possible E. coli contamination.

On Sept. 2, Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur added 10-ounce bags of Great Value Frozen Organic Triple Berry Blend to Walmart's recall, Top Class Actions reported.
The affected bags were shipped to select Walmart stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin.
The recalled package can be identified by UPC 7874211226, lot code 6040 01-6, and a "best if used by" date of Feb. 9, 2028.
As the company described, the recall was taken as a precaution after traceback information linked the product to a recall of frozen organic IQF blueberries from the same producer.

Many people recover from E. coli O145 within a week, but young children, older adults, and other vulnerable groups can face serious complications, including hemolytic uremic syndrome. The outlet described E. coli O145 as a Shiga toxin-producing bacterium that can cause severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting.

Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur said it has not received any reports of illness connected to this recall, according to Top Class Actions.
What can be done?
If you have Great Value Frozen Organic Triple Berry Blend in your freezer, the recall notice said to check the bag carefully against the recall details. Consumers who own a package of the affected fruit should not eat it and are advised to throw it away or return it to Walmart for a full refund.
