A U.K. homeowner got a startling wake-up call after opening her eyes to find a fox cub sitting at the foot of her bed. Wildlife Aid said the encounter was unnerving for the woman and just as confusing for the young animal.
Here's what to know
Wildlife Aid sent rescuers Louis and Gabe after a homeowner reported that a fox cub had somehow gotten into her house overnight and wound up in her bedroom. In a video from Wildlife Aid (@WildlifeAid), the organization said the woman woke up to "a little red intruder at the foot of her bed!"
The video shows people capturing and releasing the cub back into the wild. Wildlife Aid said that when the team arrived, they found "a distressed and an equally confused fox!"
More background
The homeowner said she had her doors open because the weather was nice, but wasn't sure how the fox got in and made it to her bedroom.
Louis and Gabe were able to get him out from the corner easily, and he didn't put up much of a fuss, besides peeing all over the bed. He was in good condition, so they were able to let him loose in the back where there were woods.
What can be done?
The homeowner sought help from trained rescuers, which is what you should do if you encounter a wild animal in your house or on your property.
And while it's easier said than done, staying calm can also ensure that you and whatever wildlife is in your space stay as safe as possible.
Where can I learn more?
Wildlife run-ins can often be stressful, but they usually end well when people handle them with care.
• In the U.K., RSPCA officers freed a fox trapped in a rack after a delicate rescue.
• At a home's back door, a bobcat lingered in the backyard during a tense standoff.
• In Burley, Idaho, authorities relocated a moose in a neighborhood after residents phoned in.
