On July 31, Southern California emergency crews were nearly ready for a helicopter operation when they noticed a herd of goats was blocking the trail. But according to People, a furry helper came to the rescue.

What happened?

In Laguna Beach, emergency responders were trying to open a pathway for a helicopter.

Drone footage shared by the Laguna Beach Police Department showed the response underway as goats stood in the area the aircraft needed to approach.

In the department's video, shared by KTLA 5 News, a nearby sheepdog came up behind the herd and moved the animals out of the helicopter's path.

The dog continued to guide the goats across the hillside, giving first responders the space they needed to keep working.

On social media, one person nicknamed the canine "Sgt. Sheepdog," per People.

Why does it matter?

In an emergency, even a short delay can complicate rescue logistics. This sheepdog's quick response helped clear the path without adding chaos to an already sensitive situation.

While it's unclear where the sheepdog came from, it just goes to show that help can come from anywhere.

Animals, handlers, first responders, and local conditions can intersect in unexpected ways. In this case, the dog's instincts helped people do their jobs more effectively while keeping an eye on the local wildlife.

What's being done?

People said that the officers never disclosed the nature of the situation, so it's unclear how well everything went either.

Regardless, everything seemed to happen as efficiently as it could in the moment. And anyone can learn from this that good coordination is key to handling emergencies safely.

It's also important to give back and take care of animals no matter where you are. If you feel called to do so, try volunteering at a local animal shelter or farm. You never know where your actions may lead you and if you'll end up taking care of another fluffy superhero.
