A fox named Storm arrived at a wildlife rescue center in such poor condition that even lying still appeared painful.

Weak, raw, and suffering from severe dermatitis, she needed immediate treatment before she could begin acting like herself again.

Here's what to know

The United Kingdom-based Wildlife Aid Foundation (@wildlifeaid) shared Storm's story on TikTok, saying she was experiencing "unimaginable pain."

"Her skin was in such poor condition that she would need multiple careful baths to help soothe it, remove the build-up, and get her skin back to a healthy condition," the charity explained.

Raul, a Wildlife Aid vet, treated Storm by first cleaning her irritated skin and then using cream and medication to ease the pain. Once that was done, she was placed in a warm area to recover and rest. After Storm received this treatment, she "wasn't afraid to show our team her feisty side … and was released shortly after."

WAF shared an adorable image of Storm once her treatment had finished.

More background

Recovery for injured animals can be slow, repetitive, and labor-intensive. Storm's experience embodied this, as her progress depended on multiple rounds of treatment, with follow-up care, baths, and rest all contributing to her healing.

Wildlife rescue organizations are doing the kind of day-to-day work that Storm needed. Those efforts are essential to helping wild animals return to full health.

"Many, many baths later, Storm began to look more like a normal fox," Wildlife Aid concluded. "Not only this, but she started behaving like one, too."

Where can I learn more?

Storm's recovery is one example of the quick intervention and careful rehab fox rescues often require.

• At New York's Sweetbriar Nature Center, a three-legged fox kit was thriving after a fence rescue.

• Wildlife officials found broken plastic wrapped tightly around a fox's neck.

• Firefighters responded after a scared fox got stuck in a rusty tire wheel.
