Licensed hunters in Marudi, Malaysia, captured nine crocodiles in two days, including two over 16 feet long.

Here's what to know

The Straits Times reported that on October 14, Team Eric Cat caught two crocodiles after bait was set near the Marudi government wharf and Marudi Bridge—the first measuring 17 feet (5.18 meters), then another at 12 feet (3.66 meters)—during an operation with the Sarawak Forestry Corporation.

On October 13, the same group had already taken seven crocodiles from the Baram River. They had laid bait there on the night of October 12, and the crocodiles caught ranged from 8.3 feet (2.53 meters) to 17.2 feet (5.24 meters).

What's being done?

In its Facebook statement, Team Eric Cat said it carried out the sweep with the Sarawak Forestry Corporation and help from Marudi residents, adding that "teamwork is vital in ensuring the safety of local communities."

The Facebook statement said, "This operation is part of efforts to manage human-wildlife conflict. It is also a safety measure along the river, subject to procedures and instructions from the relevant authorities."
