A Kentucky cow's day in the mud ended with a carefully coordinated rescue after it got stuck in a pond.
Here's what to know
According to WKYT, the Brodhead Fire Department sent two technicians trained in large-animal rescues to the pond in Brodhead at about 12:30 p.m. after the cow got stuck in the muddy water.
To get the animal out, responders used specialized help, securing a webbing sling around it and then using a grip hoist to free it from the mud.
After the rescue, officials said the cow could move under its own power and was back on its feet with no sign of injuries.

One Facebooker commented, "We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated and well equipped FD. Thanks to all caring people who give their time."
Said another: "Poor girl, she was trying to have a mud bath, it's good for the skin. Good job guys."
The rescue highlighted the unique circumstances that rural fire departments often find themselves in. While they still fight fires, they need to be ready for a variety of unique situations, often involving large animals like horses and livestock.
