Workers at a resort in Alwar, Rajasthan, received a late-night scare when they found a 5-foot snake curled up among the kitchen utensils.

Here's what to know

After spotting the snake, staff at the Sariska Desi Dhani Resort on the Alwar-Jaipur Road cleared out of the kitchen and called for help, according to India Today. The rescue team arrived and identified it as a red snake — a non-venomous species — and were able to remove it from the kitchen by hand. The snake was later released back into the forest.

Rescuers made sure to inform staff and onlookers that the species does not carry venom and advised people not to panic if they come across one.

More background

The Sariska region has many snake species, including pythons and endangered species, and reports of snakes entering nearby resorts and hotels are common — especially in the rainy and winter months as animals emerge from hiding.

In this case, the scare did not end in a bite or the death of the animal as the staff called in experts who were able to handle the situation without incident.
