Volkswagen's electric vehicle lineup is about to get a lot more interesting, according to EV owner and enthusiast molesrcool (@molesrcool).

The creator highlighted two upcoming models in a new TikTok video, providing a closer look at the ID. Tiguan and the ID.3 GTI.

Here's what to know

First, the creator highlighted the ID. Tiguan's roughly 372-mile range, while noting that Volkswagen is positioning it to replace the ID.4 and ID.5.

Because those older models are the automaker's best-selling EVs at nearly a million sales combined, he suggested the change would affect a core part of Volkswagen's electric business.

On looks, he summed up the ID. Tiguan simply by noting it "just looks nice," pointing to its familiar Volkswagen SUV design and the way he expects that shape to hold up over time.

That styling could resonate with shoppers who want an EV that blends into the everyday crossover market instead of looking dramatically different from gas-powered rivals.

"I love EVs that don't look like space ships inside and out," a TikTok viewer wrote in approval.

He saved his strongest reaction for the ID.3 GTI, a battery-powered hatchback he said outguns the Golf GTI. He also noted Volkswagen's description of it as "a true G T I." and pointed to standard features including an adaptive DCC sports chassis, a low center of gravity, direct progressive steering, launch control, and GTI Mode.

In his telling, the performance-oriented setup still leaves room for daily usability. As he put it, the model is "a true electric hot hatch that is still exceptionally practical" for everyday driving.

More background

The creator said both vehicles will "probably start around $45,000," which he framed as a bit below the average new-car price of about $50,000.

Vehicles in this category can help owners save on fuel costs compared to gasoline-powered cars, and they also tend to require less routine maintenance because they don't need services like oil changes.

Molesrcool compared the ID. Tiguan's estimated range with the 300 miles in his own EV and said he would likely have been shopping the Volkswagen if he hadn't already bought a car.

"Lots of physical controls in both, but the passenger screen in the Tiguan seems totally unnecessary," he did caveat in a follow-up comment.

Overall, though, he said the development was "exactly the kind of thing I wanna see from EVs right now."

What's being done?

Volkswagen's apparent approach here is to build EVs that look more like mainstream cars while improving the features shoppers care about most.

By moving on from the "pretty dated" ID.4 and ID.5 and introducing both a fresh SUV and a GTI-badged EV, the company appears to be casting a wider net.

For people considering an electric vehicle, a starting price near $45,000, long range, and standard performance features suggest a vehicle that can handle commuting, errands, and longer trips.

"I'm sorry if my enthusiasm for these cars makes this post seem sponsored," the expert concluded. "It's not. I'm just excited to see some brand new EVs that are styled like normal everyday cars that are also really good daily drivers."

Where can I learn more?

That lines up with Volkswagen's broader push to make its electric lineup more appealing and affordable.

• Volkswagen says EV tech popular in China could push future model prices lower.

• In Spain, Volkswagen's first low-cost EVs began rolling off the line.
