One Tesla Powerwall 3 owner took to social media to share their story after their one-year-old appliance required an RMA, a return merchandise authorization.

In Reddit's r/Powerwall forum, the original poster asked, "Has anyone done an RMA with Tesla through a solar installer? Just wondering what to expect."

Here's what to know

As the OP explained in the Reddit thread, the battery manufacturer was on the phone while a technician tested the battery at their home. Before that visit, the owner contacted the manufacturer's support team and completed several remote tests.

"Long story short. it is an RMA situation," the OP wrote.

One commenter with a similar experience responded, writing, "Just did one on a 6 month old PW3, took 3 weeks… Tesla wanted my installer to hardwire, [but the] installer refused as the unit was not working per spec. RMA granted. New unit is working fine again."

Another user wrote, "Your solar installer will order a replacement and then install it when it shows up. Depending on your installer makes it easier or more difficult." A third commenter similarly explained, "Like someone said, third party can be a blessing [or a] curse."

• A California owner says Powerwall 3 still won't reach 50% by noon after a repair.

• A battery owner received a Powerwall 3 replacement, but the warranty didn't reset.

• Another battery owner said their battery drained down to zero despite its recall-listed serial number.
