A Reddit user in Humble, Texas, captured a dramatic indoor wildlife moment as a mystery insect took down a wasp inside their home.
The original poster then sought help from the internet to identify "this dude [who] saved me."
Here's what to know
After the unknown insect seemed to overpower a wasp inside the home, the OP took to Reddit's r/WhatsThisBug for help identifying it.

Commenters quickly streamed in to identify the insect.
One person wrote, "Robber Fly. It's like a house fly that showers daily and does mixed martial arts three days a week and eats live prey… they can bite, but they're cool."
"These guys are amazing. Basically the fighter jets of the bug world," another commenter said. "Much love for them hunting what most of us consider pests."
"So they rob life is what I am taking away from the comments," a third person concluded.
Why is this important to know?
Wasps are widely known for their painful stings, and finding one inside can quickly turn stressful. So, seeing another insect intervene made the mystery predator feel, at least for a moment, like an accidental houseguest with a purpose.
Human-built spaces routinely bring animals together in unusual ways, creating encounters that may be less likely to unfold the same way outdoors.
Yet, strange insect encounters are not always random. Homes and garages can function like mini ecosystems. Porch lights attract flying insects, gaps in doors and windows give them access, and sheltered indoor spaces can draw in both prey and predators.
Insect-on-insect predation can also show that not every bug in a home is there for the same reason. Some are scavengers, some are accidental visitors, and some are hunters. Even so, "helpful" does not automatically mean harmless.
A mystery insect that dispatches a wasp may look like a hero in one moment, but it is still something most homeowners would want identified before getting too close.
