A woman in Sagar, India, got an alarming surprise in her kitchen when she discovered a large snake hidden behind a gas cylinder, according to India Today.

Instead of dealing with it on their own, the household went outside and sought help.

Here's what to know

Snake catcher Bablu Pawar was called to the home in the Rusalla area of Madhya Pradesh after the woman noticed the reptile. Her family left the house, and Pawar had to move carefully because of where the snake was concealed.

After what India Today described as "considerable effort," Pawar got the animal out safely. He identified it as an 8-foot ghoda pachhad, and seeing it in the open startled both the family and others at the scene.

Relatives stayed back during the rescue so they would not be at risk if the snake suddenly came out from its hiding place. The plan afterward was to release it in the forest.

With the rainy season often pushing snakes and other animals out of their usual hiding places, this snake may have entered the home through an opening while trying to get out of the rain.

Pawar advised residents, according to India Today, to keep their surroundings clean during the rainy season and be careful around places where snakes may seek shelter.
