Nearly four feet of water filled one home's basement after a water main broke in Norwood, Massachusetts, flooding a neighborhood that had endured a damaging storm in 2020.

Here's what to know

A 16-inch water main broke Friday near the intersection of Winfield and Nahatan streets, sending water into nearby homes, according to WCVB.

Basement flooding affected at least two homes along Rock Street.

Water was flowing from Nahatan Street when resident Linda Grundinskas went outside to investigate. Her husband alerted her after heading out for work, then returned inside to warn her about water coming down the street.

More background

Heavy rainfall overwhelmed the neighborhood's streets in 2020, WCVB reported.

The community lost access to a hospital because of that storm; damage to Norwood Hospital was so severe that it had to close.

The cause of the main break was unclear.

What's being done?

Travel through the affected area was restricted by a closure on Nahatan Street between Pleasant Street and West Border Road, per WCVB.

The outlet noted that the town's insurance company would help residents and that the street was expected to be repaved Monday.

For nonemergency water-related issues, residents were asked to not call 911.
