Because the nor'easter was forecast to bring "60 mph winds, 5 inches of rain," this original poster wrote that they were topping off their home backup setup built around "two 5000, smart transfer switch and extra batteries."
OP also said the system "runs everything in my house except [the] oven and car charger." When the stored power runs low, an "8200 watt propane generator" recharges the batteries, with a generator tent so it "can run in the heavy rain /wind."
According to the OP, the setup reduces the need to run a fuel-burning generator nonstop just to power basic essentials. Batteries quietly handle key indoor needs, while the generator kicks in only when stored power needs replenishing. The resident noted that "my system did 80 hours in a blizzard in February, before I had the generator. We use oil heat during the outage."
