Homeowner learns EcoFlow Delta 3 Max will not expand, builds solar-powered workaround

One EcoFlow buyer wound up creating an elaborate DIY backup power setup after the battery station they purchased did not expand as they expected.

Once the homeowner discovered that the Delta 3 Max from the brand Delta lacked the extra battery connection they thought it had, they paired it with solar, separate batteries, an inverter, and smart plugs to create an alternative system.

In a post to Reddit's r/Ecoflow_Community, the original poster wrote that they believed the Delta 3 Max "could be expanded by buying a battery from the same brand," but that "to my surprise, it has no connection for another battery even though the website says it does." 

The OP added that they were shopping for "a battery station that could power an entire house."

OP said that after roughly a month of trial and error, they completed their DIY workaround and concluded it was functional.

As described in the post, the arrangement combines a 550-watt solar panel feeding the Ecoflow, an inverter connected through the station's wall-socket input, two 12-volt batteries attached to that inverter, and a gasoline generator reserved for winter backup.

Smart plugs do the switching, according to OP. One is used when the Ecoflow needs battery assistance, and another is programmed to send surplus Ecoflow energy back into the separate batteries when solar production is available.
