Baby, a disabled senior rescue dog in hospice care in St. Cloud, Florida, is getting a new pink wheelchair after thieves stole the mobility device she depended on.

After the theft received widespread attention through a social media campaign boosted by the police, charitable group Ruck9 took action to provide Baby with a new wheelchair, WFTV reported.
"We were notified that a wonderful organization called Ruck9 has already ordered and shipped a new pink wheelchair for Baby," The Pittie Party of Central Florida said.
Supporters also moved quickly once Baby's story began circulating. Some offered to buy a new wheelchair outright, while others donated money to help cover the cost.
Because the replacement has already been secured, the rescue said anyone who gave specifically for the chair and wants a refund can contact the organization. Any remaining funds will go toward Baby's continued care, along with other hospice dogs in the rescue's program.
In its update, the rescue also thanked St. Cloud Police Chief Douglas Goerke and the department for investigating the theft of Baby's wheelchair.

As a hospice rescue, Baby has significant mobility needs.
"She requires a lot," Pittie Party said on Facebook. "If you've been following our page, you know that rescue has been a huge financial struggle, as of lately. Prices have increased for everything, which is making it harder for us to operate. We feel like we are barely making ends meet each month."
"Any donations from the community are a huge help to these pups," the organization continued. "We care for so many hospice dogs who have nowhere else to turn, because of their advanced health and or behavioral needs. It's a huge, lengthy commitment, but worth it."
For dogs in that position, a wheelchair is not a luxury. It can be an essential tool that helps them move more comfortably and maintain some independence.
Specialized pet equipment can be costly to replace, and the price is often put on small rescue groups already managing expensive medical bills and daily care expenses. The replacement also helps preserve limited rescue resources for other vulnerable animals in need.
