A Goodwill customer reignited a thrift-store argument after finding a wooden storage trunk marked $250, even though the piece looks more charming than high-end.

In the now-viral TikTok video, she questioned whether a chain known for secondhand bargains is drifting away from the budget-minded shoppers that reputation attracts.

Here's what to know

The TikTok, posted by Nickole Woodyard (@madewithnikki), showed a wooden trunk labeled "Indian Wood Storage" with a listed price of $250.

Woodyard started off her clip by saying, "Okay, so this is where Goodwill you start to lose me. This is where I'm like 'are you for real? Are we still Goodwill?' Cause I don't understand these prices of what Goodwill is doing lately."

Goodwill has officially lost their mind, and I have the price tag to prove it.

Before showing off the price tag, Woodyard called the trunk "beautiful" and said, "I like little details, it's cute right." Shortly after, she turned over the tag and asked, "are we serious? $250?"

She treated the find as more than a one-off surprise, using it to question Goodwill's broader pricing trends, which overwhelmingly resonated with the commenters. One user wrote, "how are they charging $250 for something they got for free?" Another added, "If Goodwill no longer serves the community with thrift pricing, stop donating." A third joked, "their will is not good."

For many shoppers, Goodwill is a stop for inexpensive furniture, storage, and other household basics. But in this case, the trunk seemed like a luxury find, and far too expensive for a thrift store.

Where can I learn more?

Other shoppers have voiced similar frustrations about Goodwill prices climbing beyond what many people expect at a thrift store. In these articles, customers describe how steep tags and heavy markups are changing the way they think about secondhand shopping.

• At one Goodwill, a shopper called a massive price tag "absolutely ridiculous" after spotting the markup.

• In another store, a shopper said the prices at Goodwill no longer matched its thrift reputation.

• Another Goodwill customer said she was absolutely disgusted by the prices lining the shelves.
