A major new electric truck rollout is headed to U.S. highways, as Swedish freight technology company Einride said it will deploy 500 Tesla Semis for Amazon routes across five states, marking the largest publicly disclosed commitment yet for Tesla's battery-powered Class 8 truck.

According to Electrek, Einride announced the deal on August 18 alongside its first-half results. The first trucks are expected to arrive in September, and the rest are slated for delivery in stages over 24 months.
Amazon routes in California, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, and Georgia are part of the deployment, and Einride said every truck will be coordinated through its Saga platform for routing and charging windows.
At 500 vehicles, the plan moves past WattEV's previously announced 370-truck Tesla Semi order for California port drayage and would increase Einride's deployed electric fleet from about 250 trucks to roughly 750.
More electric trucks running repeat routes can help improve delivery reliability while lowering the economic and environmental costs tied to diesel fuel and maintenance.
Tesla's director of Semi, Dan Priestley, said, "EV heavy trucks provide lower costs per mile from fuel savings, reduced maintenance, and better uptime over diesel trucks."
