For shoppers still dealing with expensive groceries and gas, Aldi said there is at least some relief on its shelves.

Here's what to know

In a September 23 press release, Aldi wrote that "starting today, Aldi is helping shoppers stretch their grocery budgets even further this fall, delivering an estimated $86 million in savings through additional price investments on the seasons' fresh favorites. With the addition of the lower prices, nearly one-third of the everyday in-store assortment at Aldi is priced lower than last year."

The company added that the new price cuts will remain in place through at least November 3 at stores nationwide.

As noted in the press release, "Newly reduced items include Autumn crisp grapes, Bartlett pears, Brussels sprouts, butternut and spaghetti squash, fresh herbs and garlic, French beans along with a wide range of apples and potatoes."

The retailer also said, according to USA Today, that its Kirkwood chicken breast family packs now cost $1.99 per pound, a price Aldi described as its lowest since 2022.

Aldi's move arrives while grocery inflation continues to strain household budgets. Meanwhile, in August, as the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported, per USA Today, food-at-home prices rose 2.2% year over year, with fresh fruit up 3.8% and beef up 5.9%.

What's being done?

The company said the markdowns reflect an effort to keep prices down by operating efficiently and passing those savings along to shoppers.

Aldi also said these latest cuts "build on hundreds of items where prices are already lower than they were in 2025," meaning the strategy goes beyond a one-off promotion affecting only a small number of products.

Where can I learn more?

Price changes are shaping shopper behavior across the grocery industry.

• Kroger moved to slash prices on thousands of products to win back shoppers.

• At Trader Joe's, a popular food price rose for the first time in 20 years.

• At Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, prices should fall for sustainable products if demand exists.
