2026 McDonald's Monopoly pieces hit eBay early, and resellers suspect an 'inside job'

No one in the discussion confirmed where the listings were actually coming from.

A thread on the r/Flipping subreddit about 2026 McDonald's Monopoly pieces showing up on eBay before the promotion's wider rollout has turned into less of a get-rich-quick story than a reality check on how slim the profits may actually be.

Here's what to know

In the Reddit thread, a user asked why 2026 U.S. McDonald's Monopoly pieces were already listed on eBay before the promotion officially started. They openly wondered whether the mail-in option could possibly be worth the cost.

They showed images of some sold listings they found, including one claiming it was a full set.

"Doubt," one commenter said.

Otherwise, the math was the main issue. Based on rules requiring one piece per request and two separate non-metered stamped envelopes, the poster estimated the cost at about $1.60 in postage and envelopes, even though the pieces appeared to be selling for only around $2 each before eBay fees.

The clearest takeaway was that no one offered proof of a lucrative sourcing method, and several of the boldest explanations amounted to little more than speculation.

Even the mail-in theory drew skepticism. One commenter said the listings were "probably from the mail in requests," but another argued that even people with older, cheaper Forever stamps would still have "not much of a profit margin for the trouble."

No one in the discussion confirmed where the listings were actually coming from. Instead, commenters tossed out possibilities.

"Inside jobs or warehouse leaks, that's the only way those pieces hit ebay before the cups even roll out," a commenter theorized. "Had a buddy who worked at a distribution center years back and the stuff that walked out the back door was wild."

More background

The discussion also touched on the promotion's history.

"Employees have been caught in this scandal before so I wouldn't put it past them lol," a user wrote.

Still, that does not prove anything about these 2026 eBay listings, and nothing in the Reddit thread offered hard evidence of theft.

Some replies pointed to a less dramatic possibility than theft or leaks. One commenter said they had already received Monopoly packaging with a chicken nuggets order, while another shared they were already getting game pieces on large sodas. Those anecdotes suggest that at least some promotional materials may have been circulating earlier than many shoppers expected.

What can be done?

Whatever the source, many commenters found the economics a sticking point. Using the original poster's estimate of about $1.60 per mail-in request before resale fees, there's little room for profit if pieces sell for only around $2 each.

One commenter offered a cheaper route, saying "the cheapest way to get a game piece is to buy an extra small soda and use the daily deal to get a free large fries, which comes with a game piece."

If pieces reach the market through normal early distribution rather than anything illicit, more cups, fries, and boxes making their way into stores could quickly drive down the value of ordinary pieces.

Either way, posters said to be wary of these offerings.

"Some of those listings might be fakes too since the designs get leaked ahead of time," a user wrote.
