Consumers who purchased a Whole Foods-branded herbal supplement are urged to throw away recalled bottles due to concerns about possible salmonella contamination.

Here's what to know

Vitality Works Inc. is recalling 120-count bottles of 365 Whole Foods Market Ashwagandha in its Standardized and Full Spectrum Blend formulation, according to NBC5. The Food and Drug Administration announced the recall on Oct. 30.

The affected lot, 2025-26227, expires on Oct. 13, 2028. Capsule sales began on Nov. 24, 2025, and continued through Oct. 20, 2026. Amazon sold the product nationwide, and Whole Foods Market sold it in stores across 30 states plus Washington, D.C.

More background

Salmonella can cause symptoms like stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. Routine testing of a unit purchased at retail discovered the possible contamination, according to NBC5. That finding prompted the recall; Vitality Works reported no illnesses.

Households may still have bottles in their cabinets because the affected supplement does not expire until 2028. An infection can be especially serious for young children, older adults, frail people, and anyone with a weakened immune system.

What can be done?

Anyone with a bottle of these capsules should throw them in the trash. Before doing so, check the bottle's brand, product description, count, lot number, and expiration date against the recall details. Both the expiration date and lot number appear on the bottle's underside.

The stores that sold the supplement span states as far apart as Hawai'i, Maine, Florida, and Washington. Because Amazon also sold the product nationwide, anyone outside the 30-state store distribution area should check their online purchases as well.
