A mold-produced toxin exceeded the legal limit in tests on a batch of caramel-flavored ground coffee. TK Maxx and Bialetti have recalled the affected batch.
Here's what to know
The 8.8-ounce (250g) packs of Bialetti Perfetto Moka caramel-flavored ground coffee that are affected have a best-before date of May 29, 2027, and batch number LC5 BD149T, according to Birmingham Live.
This batch was sold by TK Maxx from July through November 2025.
"This product is being recalled because testing identified levels of Ochratoxin A above the permitted limit," a TK Maxx spokesperson said, as Birmingham Live relayed.
They added, "Ochratoxin A is a naturally occurring substance produced by certain molds and may be harmful if consumed. If you've purchased this product, please stop using it immediately and return to any TK Maxx or Homesense store. You can get a full refund or replacement."
What can be done?
Shoppers can check both the batch number and best-before date to determine whether a package is affected. For questions about the recall, a Bialetti spokesperson said to email Bialetti at product.recall@BialettiGroup.com. The refund policy also covers shoppers who cannot provide proof of purchase.
