DREO is recalling more than 300,000 space heaters after reports of units catching fire.

To get a free replacement, owners are being instructed to unplug the affected heater and cut its electrical cord.

Here's what to know

Seventeen fires have been reported. Three caused property damage, and one burned a person's hand, according to Scripps News. The outlet said overheating can cause the units to ignite.

For homeowners considering larger heating upgrades, Palmetto can help them understand their HVAC options and reduce energy bills with newer, more efficient systems and heat pumps. Palmetto's Comfort Plan network helps homeowners find efficient heating and cooling solutions for their homes and connects them with vetted installers.

More background

According to Scripps News, the recalled heaters are black, measure about 11.5 inches wide and 13 inches tall, and come with a remote control.

Costco sold the heaters in its stores nationwide and on Costco.com. Other online retailers include Dreo.com, BestBuy.com, Kohls.com, Lowes.com, QVC.com, HomeDepot.com, and B2BRenew.com.

The sales period ran from September 2025 through October 2026, with prices ranging from $70 to $110. The recall applies only to heaters made between April 2025 and January 2026.

What can be done?

Owners should stop using the heaters immediately and contact the manufacturer for a free replacement, according to Scripps News. To destroy a recalled heater, the manufacturer instructs owners to unplug it and cut its electrical cord.
