Ford puts a bigger battery in every 2027 Mach-E, making longer range about $4,000 cheaper

A longer-range EV can be easier to live with for commuting, errands, and weekend travel.

Ford is giving the 2027 Mustang Mach-E a notable update in one of the areas EV shoppers tend to care about most: range.

For 2027, every version of the electric crossover will come standard with the larger battery pack, lowering the entry cost for a longer-range Mach-E. That means buyers will no longer have to move up to a much more expensive configuration just to get more miles.

Here's what to know

Even the rear-wheel-drive Select gets the extended-range battery, giving the lineup's lowest-priced trim 88 kilowatt-hours of usable capacity. Including destination, the 2027 Mach-E Select RWD starts at $42,040. Before this change, the least-expensive long-range Select came only with all-wheel drive and landed at about $47,000, according to CarBuzz.

So while the base Mach-E is $2,200 more expensive, a long-range version now costs nearly $5,000 less than before.

Ford has not published a new range estimate for the 2027 Select, but CarBuzz noted that the 2026 Mach-E Premium RWD was estimated at 320 miles with this larger battery. That compares with 260 miles for the smaller pack, which could mean fewer charging stops.

More background

The Mach-E debuted in 2019 and started reaching customers in late 2020 as a 2021 model, which makes 2027 its sixth model year. Ford is mostly leaving the exterior as-is while updating the vehicle in less visible ways to keep it competitive.

A longer-range EV can be easier to live with for commuting, errands, and weekend travel. EVs can also help owners save money through lower fuel costs and reduced routine maintenance compared with gas-powered vehicles, which is part of the appeal of making your next car an EV.

Another 2027 addition is the Trail trim. Based on the Select AWD model, it sits below the more extreme Mach-E Rally and adds a 0.4-inch lift up front, a 0.6-inch lift in the rear, 19-inch wheels, Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires, and steering hardware borrowed from the Rally.

What's being done?

Instead of fully redesigning the Mach-E, Ford is refining it for 2027. Beyond standardizing the larger battery, the company is fitting all-wheel-drive models with a new front motor that keeps output the same but costs less to produce, which could help Ford manage pricing.

Feature packaging is changing as well. The Connectivity Pack and Security Package are included on every Mach-E, BlueCruise 1.5 remains optional on Select and Premium trims, and Pro Power Onboard is available on Premium and GT models while coming standard on the new Trail trim.

For buyers thinking about ownership costs, charging an EV at home often costs half as much as using public chargers, but basic Level 1 charging tends to be slow. Qmerit provides free, instant installation estimates for faster Level 2 home charger installations.

Rather than turning the Mach-E into a serious off-roader, the Trail trim is meant to give it a more adventure-ready character. Ford is aiming it more at secluded dirt roads than intense trail use, and it also offers an available Thule Cross Bar kit for added utility.

The new Mach-E Trail starts at $47,335, can be ordered, and should reach buyers in the first quarter of 2027.
