Ford has issued a recall for 102,159 pickup trucks because a defect in the instrument cluster can make the speed reading unreliable.
In affected vehicles, drivers may see inconsistent speed information while the truck is moving.
Here's what to know
All affected vehicles have an analog instrument cluster, according to MotorBiscuit. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall covers several 2025 and 2026 Ford trucks, including the 2025–2026 F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, and F-600, along with 10,570 model-year 2026 F-150s and a single 2026 F-750 Super Duty.
According to the recall report, "If the speedometer fails to operate correctly, the driver may be unable to determine how fast the vehicle is traveling, potentially increasing the likelihood of a crash."
In trucks with a secondary digital speed readout, that display may show a different number than the analog gauge. When that happens, the instrument panel can present two different speeds at once.
The NHTSA said the company began investigating the problem on May 28, 2026, after receiving reports that analog speedometer and tachometer needles in F-150 and Super Duty trucks could stick or show inaccurate readings.
More background
Records and documentation from Ford's supplier led the automaker to conclude that the defect stemmed from problems in the supplier's manufacturing process. Ford said the supplier addressed the issue through tool maintenance performed on Jan. 15, 2026.
Ford said the affected vehicles still comply with the stated speedometer requirements in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 101, although they "may not fully satisfy the standard's intent." NHTSA's Office of Vehicle Safety Compliance agreed.
By Sept. 16, Ford had recorded 18 warranty claims and 93 field reports involving 79 distinct VINs, with no reported crashes, fires, or injuries.
What's being done?
Authorized Ford dealers will replace the affected instrument cluster modules for free, per the NHTSA recall report.
VIN lookup access went live on Oct. 9, when Ford planned to notify dealers, letting owners check whether their trucks were included before mailed notices arrived.
Ford expects to send interim owner letters from Oct. 26 through Oct. 30. Final-remedy notices are scheduled to follow from Dec. 7 to Dec. 11.
