After switching from a Nissan Altima to a Kia EV6, driver says, 'Why would I ever go back?'

"The biggest issue with EVs is that they ruin the experience of driving ICE cars."

After six months with a 2025 Kia EV6 Wind, one Redditor said the switch made returning to a gas car tough to picture.

"The handle, acceleration, looks — even range, I have zero regrets," the driver wrote.

Here's what to know

On r/electricvehicles, the owner said the EV6 was a clear improvement over their old sedan and that they didn't have to recharge "all that much more than how often I'd have to visit a gas station."

They said the experience was convincing enough that they felt they needed to help others make the switch, stating: "I guess this is a nudge to someone on the fence like I was for a while. It's worth the switch."

They added, "Still catch myself walking up to and thinking, 'Dang, I actually love my car.'"

Commenters also focused on EV benefits.

"Charging at home is a major convenience — plug in when you need to, and when you leave in the morning it is ready to go," one wrote.

The original poster replied, "My apartment has a charging station downstairs (albeit slow, and only two), but it really is a game-changer waking up to a 'full tank' when you forgot you plugged in."

More background

Across the thread, users described EV ownership as removing everyday hassles. A recurring point was the relief of not having to deal with gas station visits, especially in bad weather or when the battery is nearly empty.

"I remember standing outside with icy water pelting my face, thinking, 'Why do we do this?'" one commenter said, adding that their EV and home charging meant they no longer worried about waking up with an empty tank and wondering whether they had enough fuel to get to work.

Someone else emphasized the time savings, writing that a weekly Costco gas trip used to be "a 20 minute detour at minimum," whereas charging now happens overnight at home, even if it is needed more often.

The thread also touched on increasingly affordable sticker prices. A commenter said a used 2024 EV6 GT with 20,000 miles was listed near them for $29,000, while their 2022 Model Y Performance with 30,000 miles had cost $31,500.

Another user framed the savings in operating costs, saying their EV costs "less than $10/week to 'fill the electron tank,' saving me easily $300 or more per month."

What can be done?

Cold-weather comfort came up repeatedly as well, especially the ability to warm the car remotely. "During winter you can preheat the car while in the garage without the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning," the first commenter wrote.

Another added, "Just open the app and preheat the cabin without an engine running is a game-changer."

The takeaway was that day-to-day convenience was a major win. "The biggest issue with EVs is that they ruin the experience of driving ICE cars," one commenter wrote.

The OP replied, "Why would I ever go back?"
