A recall involving a Lidl frozen dessert means shoppers in several states should check whether they have it at home, Fox 5 DC reported.

The product at issue is one lot of Gelatelli coffee and vanilla gelato with coffee sauce and cookie pieces that may be contaminated with listeria.

Here's what to know

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recalled pints were sent to stores from July 19 through Oct. 15 and are marked with a best-by date of March 26, 2028.

The recall applies to 1-pint containers.

The CPSC said the gelato was distributed to Lidl stores in the District of Columbia, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia.

Citing the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Fox 5 reported that Lidl initiated the recall after routine testing detected listeria in a laboratory sample.

To determine whether a pint is affected, check the bottom of the container for these identifiers from the recall advisory: UPC 4 0564897 22458, lot number 085261, and a best-by date of March 26, 2028.

The product was sold in a clear plastic container with a brown lid.

Pregnant women are at risk of miscarriage or stillbirth if exposed to listeria. The agency also warns that infections can be especially dangerous for young children, frail or older people, and those with weakened immune systems.

In otherwise healthy individuals, symptoms can include fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, stomach pain, and diarrhea.

What can be done?

Anyone who has the gelato from lot number 085261 should not eat it.

Lidl says customers can discard the product or return it to the nearest store for a refund.

Customers with questions can contact Lidl customer service at 844-747-5435 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Saturday.
