U.K. vacuum cleaner manufacturer Dyson is offering a door-to-door cleaning and restoration service for cordless vacuums and wet floor cleaners.
Here's what to know
According to TechRadar, Dyson Total Restore has launched in mainland Britain for eligible cordless vacuums and wet floor cleaners. Priced at almost 100 British pounds ($132), the service includes pickup, an engineering assessment, deep cleaning, and repair, with additional repair charges if the work is not covered by warranty.
After pickup from the customer's home, the machine is transported to Dyson's repair center in Chippenham. Engineers there check core areas including airflow, battery condition, and motor output before restoration begins.
Dyson says the next part includes an industrial-grade deep clean. Technicians also repair faults where possible and swap worn or damaged components for genuine parts before the machine is returned.
When the appliance comes back, owners receive records of the work, including a label showing the latest service date, digital photos, a digital health check report, and a digital certificate of service. Dyson will also provide replacement filters or wet rollers if they are needed.
More background
Eligible products include a wide spread of Dyson machines, from cordless vacuums in the V7-to-V16 Piston Animal range to wet cleaners such as the Dyson WashG1 and PencilWash.
The service is more than a fix for obvious problems, with the goal of helping owners keep using a machine for longer by restoring performance, rather than replacing it as soon as it starts to decline.
Dyson Chief Engineer Jake Dyson told TechRadar's Ruth Hamilton in an interview, "It's offering to consumers a better service and allowing our machines to be looked after and giving them a second wind."
While Dyson Total Restore is currently only operating in Great Britain, the company expects to eventually expand internationally.
What's being done?
To find out whether a machine is covered, customers can sign in on the Dyson website and check the "My Products" page, where eligible products are identified.
If the product qualifies, Dyson handles the rest of the process from collection to return, bundling diagnostics, cleaning, parts replacement, and reporting into a single set-price service, making refurbishment a formal customer service option.
Jake Dyson described the offer, saying, "So, if they come in for a spa day, they go back in the same condition they were when they were new. So, you always start again on the reliability curve and the abuse curve."
