A swan was stranded in a storm lagoon in Exeter, England, after arriving with another bird that was able to fly away.
Staff then kept the swan safe so specialists could return it to the wild.
Here's what to know
While specialists were consulted, workers at a South West Water site kept the swan under watch and ensured it had food and water after determining it was stuck in the lagoon, according to the Sidmouth Herald.
Such lagoons hold rainwater for short periods during wet weather, curbing flooding.
South West Water later partnered with local wildlife rescue group The Swan Squad to get the bird out safely.
"The swan was checked over, then taken to the local flock," Lianne of The Swan Squad said, per the Herald. "Once the swan was released into the water, his mate immediately spotted him and came swimming over. It was a wonderful reunion."

Mark Smitheram, wastewater treatment manager at South West Water, added: "The swan quickly became a familiar sight for colleagues working at the site, and we wanted to make sure it was looked after while we found the best way to help. We're so grateful to the amazing team at The Swan Squad for their support in safely rescuing and releasing the bird. It was great to see it returned back to its natural environment."
South West Water said the swan was doing well since it returned to the wild.
"We're pleased to have been contacted and able to help," Lianne told the Herald.
