12-foot python swallows nilgai calf in Indian village, then regurgitates less than an hour later

Residents in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, witnessed a shocking sight when a 12-foot python left a field, went into the village area, and swallowed a nilgai calf in plain sight.

After seeing the snake leave farmland and head toward homes, residents hurried children indoors and moved goats and other livestock out of its path. According to India Today, the python swallowed the nearly 44-pound (20-kilogram) calf whole in about six minutes.

Before swallowing the calf, the snake wrapped itself around it while onlookers stayed back. It remained nearby afterward and regurgitated the animal about 42 minutes later, keeping the village on edge for hours.

After residents contacted police and the Forest Department to assess the situation, response teams arrived and later secured the snake. They placed the python in a bag and removed it from the area near the homes.
