More than 62,000 Florida homeowners could see smaller insurance bills at renewal after state regulators approved rate decreases for four private insurers.

Here's what to know

As reported by FOX 13 News, Florida Insurance Commissioner Mike Yaworsky approved the lower rates for One Alliance North America Insurance Company, Safe Harbor Insurance Company, Unique Insurance Company, and Vyrd Insurance Company.

For One Alliance North America, the approved decrease is 10.4% across over 17,000 policies, while for Safe Harbor, the approved reduction is 4.1% for over 10,000 policies, per FOX 13. For Vyrd, the requested 10.4% cut would impact nearly 27,000 policies, while Unique will have a 3.2% decrease for over 8,200 policies.

These lower premiums are expected to appear when affected policies renew, although officials have not provided a timetable for when updated bills will go out.

Those approvals align with a wider shift in Florida's insurance market. Since January 2024, 48 carriers have filed for lower rates, while 53 have requested no increase, per FOX 13. The outlet also reported that, overall, Florida posted the nation's smallest rate shift in 2025, with a 0.92% decline, versus a national weighted average increase of about 5.5%.

Still, Floridians face insurance struggles, as the state deals with increasingly extreme weather events and some insurers drop policies. This trend is expected to continue as the planet also continues warming at an increasingly fast rate.
