A nationwide recall covered products that many consumers may not view as risky: injectable supplements marketed for immunity, energy, and general wellness.
Texas-based Centric Compounding recalled multiple lots of three injectable products after identifying a toxin-related contamination risk that the company says could lead to severe medical events, including death.

Prescribers and patients across the country received the affected injectables before Centric Compounding announced a Sept. 11 recall covering six lots of Glutathione, Myers' Cocktail, and Tri-Immune Boost, according to CW39.
Endotoxins — also called lipopolysaccharides — are toxins produced by pathogenic bacteria that can trigger strong inflammatory reactions. According to CW39, Centric said an ingredient used in the recalled injectables had elevated endotoxin levels.
In its notice, the company said it had received nine reports describing "fever, chills, chest pain, nausea/vomiting, headache, and/or malaise." The items were sold as injectables intended to support immunity, ease fatigue, or promote general wellness.

What can be done?
People who have Glutathione, Myers' Cocktail, or Tri-Immune Boost injectables from Centric Compounding should check whether their supply is included in the recalled lots and, if so, stop using the products and discard them.

"There is reasonable probability that injectable products with elevated endotoxin levels could cause significant medical events including fevers, hypotension, inflammatory reactions, anaphylactic shock, and death," per the recall notice.
