A major Ford recall affected more than 223,000 F-150 pickups, with the automaker warning that a fuel tank defect could create crash and fire risks.

The Sept. 9 recall notice posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration explained that many 2023-27 Ford F-150 trucks may have a defect that can raise the likelihood of a fire or crash.
"Affected vehicles are equipped with front fuel tank straps that may have been improperly assembled," according to the recall. "... An improperly secured fuel tank may cause fuel leaks, which could increase the risk of fire or engine stall from fuel loss. A detached fuel tank also creates a road hazard to other vehicles."
The recall estimated that 1% of the recalled vehicles may have this defect. Ford said it had not received any reports of injuries tied to the issue.
The NHTSA recall number for this case is 26V578, and the manufacturer recall number is 26S69.
What can be done?
To address the recall, owners should bring their trucks to a dealer so the straps can be inspected and, if necessary, replaced at no cost, according to USA Today.
