Households in the United Kingdom are switching electricity providers at an unusually high rate, suggesting many families are searching for ways to trim bills that often seem beyond their control.
A total of 362,000 electricity supplier switches were recorded across the U.K. in July 2026, the highest monthly figure of the year.

According to Energy Live News, which cited data from market provider ElectraLink, the July total of 362,000 was 7% higher than June's 338,000, another record month.
In the domestic market, switching climbed 45% over the first half of 2026 and then added a further 6% in July to reach 323,000.
July also saw 31,000 switches among small and medium-sized businesses and 7,000 among industrial and commercial users.
Across June and July, 58% of all switches were between large suppliers.

Before July set a new high, June had risen 41% from May and was 48% above the same period in 2025.
