'My purpose is to not depend on the grid': California owner's Powerwall 3 still won't hit 50% charge after repair

One Southern California homeowner said their Tesla Powerwall 3 stopped performing as expected.

The homeowner took to Reddit's r/TeslaSolar community to ask for help and see if anyone else had experienced the same issue.

According to the post, the home featured a fourth-month-old Powerwall 3 and Extension Pack. The original poster said the system used to reach a full charge but now "does not even get to 50% charged by noon time" even though the summer sun provided ample energy.

"My household has not changed. I rarely turn on the AC. We are not home during the day," the OP added. "... My purpose is to not depend on the grid."

They said the solar panels were producing normally, pointing to both monthly and daily output. The array generated 1.0 megawatt-hour in April and 1.2 megawatt-hours in July, while one April day produced 33.6 kilowatt-hours compared with 35 kilowatt-hours on one August day.

After a Tesla technician visited to service the system, the OP said there was no noticeable change. And though the technician identified a problem with one battery unit, the homeowner wrote, "I did not see any improvement."

For many households, solar-plus-storage can still be a powerful way to reduce exposure to high electricity prices and cut pollution. The savings, however, depend not just on buying the technology but on making sure it continues to deliver what was promised.
