In parts of Africa and Asia where blackouts are a regular part of life, many homes and small businesses still depend on noisy, expensive diesel generators. SolaX Power is now pitching a new all-in-one battery system as a simpler backup option that could also be much safer.
Starting in August, SolaX Power plans to bring its AEGIS off-grid storage line to those markets, according to Green Building Africa. The rollout is aimed at remote communities and other areas with weak grids and frequent outages, where reliable power can be difficult to secure.
Here's what to know
The AEGIS range places the off-grid inverter, a 16-kilowatt-hour battery, and the battery management system inside one cabinet. Especially in remote locations where crews may need to travel long distances, this design can reduce on-site wiring and shorten installation time. It can also lower the odds of costly mistakes.
According to Green Building Africa, SolaX will offer the systems in 6-kilowatt and 8-kilowatt models. The company also said that in EPS mode, they can briefly deliver twice their rated output for 5 seconds, which can help handle the startup draw from equipment such as AC units, fridges, pumps, and motors.

Green Building Africa reported that SolaX is positioning the system for homes, farms, island communities, and smaller commercial properties that often still rely on gas or diesel generators for backup power.
On the safety side, SolaX said the unit tracks heat and links the inverter with the battery management system so they can coordinate protective responses.
If a problem continues or worsens, the system can activate aerosol fire suppression. It also includes battery monitoring, early alerts, a built-in circuit breaker, and a pressure-relief channel, according to Green Building Africa.
What's being done?
As solar panels and batteries get cheaper, systems that pair storage with backup power are becoming a more realistic replacement for generator dependence. Ultimately, this switch could lead to quieter homes, smaller fuel bills, and stronger protection when the grid goes down.
The setup is expandable, too. According to Green Building Africa, up to three units can run together, so three 8 kilowatt models would provide 24 kilowatts of output and 48 kilowatt-hours of storage.
SolaX also added generator connections and smart load management. As Green Building Africa explained, this lets the system align generator use with battery charge levels and overall demand, helping households hold onto stored electricity for priority devices rather than using it for nonessential loads.
Jerry Cui, regional sales director at SolaX Power, explained, "In many markets, households need one system to manage solar generation, battery storage, essential loads and generator backup. AEGIS was designed to bring those functions together while keeping installation and day-to-day operation as simple as possible."
