A trip from Boston to New York just got a lot cheaper, with travelers departing from South Station now able to find one-way bus tickets starting at $19 on a newly launched OurBus route.
For students, families, and other budget-conscious riders, the lower fares could make one of the Northeast's busiest trips more manageable.
Here's what to know
For selected departures in August and September, OurBus is offering promotional one-way fares on its new service between Boston's South Station and New York City, according to Boston.com. Service to Baltimore and Washington, D.C., was scheduled to start Thursday, with fares beginning at $29.
Since launching in 2016, OurBus has expanded to more than 300 destinations across the country while working through independent coach operators.
Changes at South Station are part of the backdrop for the new service. The station's expansion boosted capacity by 50% and made transfers to commuter rail and subway service easier, Boston.com reported.
Axel Hellman, co-founder of OurBus, said the stop is especially important because customers have wanted direct service from Boston's main transportation hub.

"We're excited to now give them that option while continuing to offer the affordable and flexible service they expect from OurBus," Hellman told Boston.com.

A $19 ticket to New York is less than what travelers often pay for Amtrak's Northeast Regional service on the same corridor.
Because the route starts at South Station, riders can connect to multiple transit lines, improving accessibility for travelers in the heart of the city.
Beyond South Station, OurBus already has pickup and drop-off locations around the region, including Back Bay, Northeastern University, and Boston College.

Only select trips qualify for the $19 fare. Tickets can be booked on OurBus.com or through the OurBus app.
The company says onboard features include complimentary water, Wi-Fi, bathrooms, charging outlets, live GPS tracking, and round-the-clock rider support.
