Devastating flooding in Carmel, Indiana, was visible from above in footage recorded by a local resident's drone, giving viewers a look at just how much water had quickly spread through their area.
Here's what to know
The resident posted the drone footage to TikTok, showing Carmel right after floodwaters covered a wide area.
The woman who shot the footage, Carol Robinson, wrote, "Hubby and I took the drone up today to see the devastating floods in Carmel, IN. We are praying for everyone affected & if you need anything please don't hesitate to reach out."

Robinson also described the situation as "historic Indiana floods rock quarry in Carmel amongst other locations that are just completely devastated."
The drone footage shows water levels seriously high, with dirt and debris scattered throughout the landscape.
Commenters also focused on the unusual force of the flooding. One wrote, "I have a feeling that all that water going into the quarry saved everyone downstream. It was powerful enough to reverse the stream of that creek!"
Another commenter connected the scene to Indiana's longer environmental history, writing, "Indiana used to be [the] largest marsh next to Everglades until we drained it. [Looks] like nature took it back."
A third added, "Reports now say the White River is likely to be permanently routed into the quarry due to erosion."
More background
When water overtakes landscapes and neighborhoods, it can damage workplaces and homes, destroy vehicles, shut down roads, interrupt school, and leave families facing costly repairs and temporary displacement.
Worsening extreme weather disasters also put lives and livelihoods at risk in more direct ways. Floodwaters can carry sewage, chemicals, and debris, creating public health risks and increasing the danger of injuries, electrocution, and drowning.
On top of that, damaged businesses, lost wages, insurance complications, and repair bills can place enormous pressure on household finances and local economies.
Scientists have warned that a warmer atmosphere holds more moisture, which contributes to heavier downpours in many regions and increases the risks that major floods bring.
