An FDA recall involving about 19 million eggs sold across at least 17 states has been moved into the agency's highest-risk category, and officials have tied it to 98 illnesses and 26 hospitalizations.

In a YouTube video, physician Dr. Frita discussed the recall and advised viewers to first check whether their egg cartons have "Best Buy" dates between July 20 and Aug. 17, 2026.
Consumers can then compare the plant code and Julian date printed on the carton with the details listed in the recall notice to determine whether their eggs are affected.
Dr. Frita warned that eggs can carry Salmonella and warned of its effects.
"Salmonella isn't just 'a bad stomach bug' either," they said. Symptoms may show up 8 to 72 hours after contaminated eggs are eaten, and the warning signs to watch for include bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and a high fever.
Within the FDA's recall system, Class I is the most serious category and is reserved for products that may cause severe health problems.
