An injured juvenile bald eagle in southeastern Kentucky got a second chance at life when a state trooper came to the rescue.
What happened?
According to Kentucky Today, Trey Lovins of the Kentucky State Police responded to a call in June regarding a bird that appeared to be in distress and was unable to fly.
The officer safely captured the animal and contacted local wildlife experts for further guidance.
Kentucky Today reported that Lovins then took the eagle to the Lake Cumberland Wildlife Refuge, which rehabilitates raptors and other birds of prey. The eagle, named Trooper in honor of its rescuer, was cared for at the facility for a little over a month.
It was then released back into the wild.
Kentucky Today noted that Lake Cumberland Wildlife Refuge employees and volunteers and even state police came to see Trooper's release.

Bald eagles are among the country's greatest conservation success stories. Once pushed to the brink of extinction by hunters and the use of harmful pesticides, the iconic birds have made a remarkable comeback thanks to decades of legal protections and habitat restoration.

Trained wildlife rehabilitation centers play an important role in conservation. Law enforcement officers and other responders may be first on the scene, but recovery often depends on specialists who know how to stabilize, treat, and rehabilitate injured animals.
